Results & Achievements

This section describes the main Results and Achievements so far obtained in the ERMES project.

The following pages report some of the main activities conducted within ERMES in 2014, 2015 and 2016.

2015 – Yield forecasting. Focus on Greece
The regional modelling solution was run for the time window 2000-2014 and in real-time (i.e.2015). Outputs were temporally and spatially analyzed for the six studied areas (Thessaloniki and Serres – GREECE, Valencia and Tarragona – SPAIN, Vercelli and Lomellina – ITALY). ... Read more
2015 – Seasonal pattern maps. Focus on Greece
The purpose of the seasonal patterns maps (EP_L3) is to identify within-parcel anomalies due to seasonal drivers, such as nitrogen deficiency and weeds infestation, using very high-resolution (VHR) satellite imagery acquired at critical dates of the cultivation season... Read more
2015- CONSTANT PATTERN MAPS. focus on GREECE
The main goal of the soil/biomass constant pattern maps (EP_L2) is to provide high-resolution maps useful to define at the local scale elementary units for WARM model simulations at the within-parcel scale. ... Read more
2014 – ERMES Year One: A recap of activities
The first year of activity of ERMES came to an end with the first ERMES Annual meeting Research activities conducted during the first year were focused on the following main aspects: ... Read more
2014 – Geoportal and Smart-App prototypes v0
The first release of the prototype applications for the Regional Service and the Smart-App developed by UJI were presented during the 1st annual project meeting that took place in March 2015 (Valencia). The regional Geo-portal focuses on visualizing and analysing relevant data products (e.g., meteo data, phenology, vegetation index) for wider area, and targets e.g. local governments, regulatory agencies or agribusiness companies, while the smart app allows farmers and field workers to collect in-situ data. ... 2014 – Phenological Mapping
The first proototypes of ERMES phenological maps were developed by CNR-IREA in the framework of activities dedicated to the development of processing chains for ERMES products creation. ERMES phenological maps are derived from analysis of 250m spatial resolution satellite images acquired by the MODIS sensor during the rice growing season using an algorithm specifically developed for rice crop growth monitoring. Results of the analysis are then aggregated on a regular 2x2 km grid, and provide estimates of the average sowing, emergenge and heading dates of rice crops within each cell... Read more
2014 – Multitemporal LAI maps
ERMES LAI (Leaf Area Index) products will provide near real time information related to the status of rice fields, derived from multitemporal satellite images. Leaf area index (LAI) is a dimensionless quantity that characterizes plant canopies. It is defined as the one-sided green leaf area per unit ground surface area (LAI = leaf area / ground area, m2 / m2) in broadleaf canopies. ... Read more
2014 – Rice crop mapping
Rice maps provide information on the extent of the area covered by rice crop cultivations during the on-going season (“early rice area map”, mid-July) and at the end of the season (“end of season rice area map”, mid-October). The first mapping products delivered within the ERMES project have been produced by Sarmap in collaboration with IREA-CNR and AUTH... Read more
