Spanish field activities 2014
The field campaign over the Spanish local study area was carried out from June 17th to September 8th (10 times) covering the 2014 rice season. The campaign was conducted in some selected paddy fields in the municipality of Sueca and El Palmar (South of Valencia). Rice crop information was acquired on 26 Elementary Sampling Units (ESUs) within the fields.
Measurements
- Biophysical Parameters
Leaf Area index (LAI) and Fraction of Absorbed Photosynthetically Active Radiation (fAPAR) were both acquired over each ESU with Digital Hemispherical photographs (DHP). LAI measurements were also obtained using other instruments such as LAI-2000 Plant Canopy Analyzer and a smarthphone mobile app called PocketLAI.

In addition, some ancillary data were obtained for each ESU:

Monitoring those crop variables during the growing season allow to identify the state of the plant. This information could be used to understand better or reduce the differences when making the validation of satellite products.
